WHASSUP: Try New Things Edition

What do you get when you combine two evenings in Gowanus, some old subway trains, a bunch of hippies, and body science? An awesome fucking week of merriment, that’s what. I have curated perhaps the best, most obscure collection of local shit to do. You’re gonna want to thank me now.

So WHASSUP? Ch-ch-check it out:

Thursday, 5/15, Current: Gowanus, Gowanus Loft: Free is my favorite flavor, so I pride myself in bringing you lovelies quality free offerings. Local art for view and sale, painted with mud from the banks of the Gowanus. “Is he joking?” You’ll just have to find out for yourself. Free, 12pm-8pm

Friday, 5/16, Bosley, Union Hall: My criteria for handpicking events is dependent on a number of different factors. This particular offering reminded me of that shittastic infrared hair comb. Oh yeah, and the music sounds like a blast. $10, Doors 8pm, Show 8:30pm

Saturday, 5/17, Tongue in Trees, Barbés: This is some fantastic, hippy shit. I’m talking a serious, wavy gravy, tie-dyed, tree tonguing, flower fest. Grow out your hair and don your dashiki.  $10, 8pm

Sunday, 5/18, First Annual Crawfish Boil, Mission Dolores: Yes! Yes, Mission Dolores! You are such a great fucking bar. You have great beer. You let me take my dog there. And now you’re going to cook me itty-bitty lobster. Yes! Pay as you go, Noon-5pm

Monday, 5/21, Writing Workshop with NY Writer’s Coalition, NY Transit Museum: First of all, this museum is the tits. It’s a wonderland subway history. Now, get this: they’ve teamed up with the New York Writer’s Coalition and are letting you write anything you want, without judgment, while sitting on trains dating back to 1903. FREE, 2pm-5pm

Tuesday, 5/22, Secret Science Club Presents “It’s a Jungle in There” with Microbiologist and Author Martin Blaser, The Bell House: Everyone in NYC is full of crap. No offense; it’s a fact. But did you know we’re also full of 1000’s of microbial fuckers that swim freely through our guts and, at times, wreak their fair share of havoc. Learn something! FREE, 7:30pm, 8pm

Wednesday, 5/23, Donofrio Dance Company 5 Year Anniversary Benefit, Gowanus Arts Building: Two Gowanus events this week? Fuck yeah. Support the arts. All proceeds go to the growth of this Park Slope based dance company. $10 online, $15 at the door, 7pm-11:30pm
