WHASSUP: A Little of This, A Little of That Edition

This week is serving up a plethora of outings for all walks of life.  From children to dorky singles, sports enthusiasts to folks looking to yuck it up—have I got something for you!?

The weather is threatening to warm up and leave this fucking miserable winter behind, so I've included a couple outdoor activities.  If it's too cold, blame that bastard groundhog and do something else.

So, Whassup?  I'll tell you Whassup:

Thursday, March 27, Prospect Park Carousel Reopens, Prospect Park (obvi): Kiddies and adults can once again mount those majestic equines, carved in 1912, and head off in counterclockwise orbits to the hee-haw-haw sounds of a calliope. Thursdays-Sundays, 12pm-5pm, $2 for a single ride, $7 for a 10 pass

Thursday, March 27, How to Build a Fire: Advancing the Oral Tradition, Open Source Gallery, South Slope: I think advancing the oral tradition is of utmost importance, a right of passage if you will, for generations to come. Wait. What? Oh, it's storytelling?  I mean...that's cool too, I guess. 7:30pm, FREE

Friday, March 28, Hip Hop and R&B Sing Along, Union Hall:  "Kris Kross'll make ya jump, jump". Too soon? I'm so giddy with excitement—I'm up in here wearing my smoothest Hammer pants and doing the running man, while rapping Ice Ice Baby. Doors 9:30pm, Show 10pm, $8

Saturday, March 29, Baseball Greats in Green-Wood: Trolley Tour, Green-Wood Cemetary: Ah, morbidity in the springtime. For me, springtime means baseball...and daisies—so you might as well learn about the dudes who are pushing them up.  Poor taste! Green-Wood honors its residents who became greats by crafting our national pasttime.  1pm-3pm, $15 members, $20 non-members (I'll be happy to pay the extra 5 bucks to remain a "non-member" of the cemetary)

Sunday, March 30, Coffee Tasting and Brewing Methods, La Boulangerie Lopez, South Slope: If your idea of coffee is Dunkin' Donuts, you may want to close this page right now.  For those of you snooty S.O.B.'s who cringe at the thought of drip coffee, think sweeteners are for pussies, and know what a chemex is, then this may be right up your alley. 3pm, FREE

Monday, March 31, Speed Dating Game Night, The Brooklyn Strategist, Carroll Gardens: Remember "Revenge of the Nerds" when the poindexters triumphed over the cool kids and scored some seriously hot chicks, giving outcasts everwhere a glimmer of hope that they might get laid before they had to scrounge up enough lawn mowing money to pay for it themselves?  Well, if the only company you’ve had lately is your twelve-sided die or joystick (yours to interpret) you may just want to mosey on over to Court Street and try your hand at some two player action. $15, 7pm-9pm

Tuesday, April 1, The Fancy Show, Bar Reis: Like a labrynth, this multi-floored bar unravels before you, complete with private nooks and outdoor space. In fact, I ushered in the New Year here. Free shots and plastic top hats anyone? Come for a drink and stay for a laugh at this new neighborhood guffaw-fest. 8PM, FREE, first come, first serve or click the link to email for seating.

Tuesday, April 1, Geeking Out, Union Hall: The brain child of FIPS alum, Kerri Doherty (who has a web series by the same name), Geeking Out sounds like a comedic gossip sesh with some funny-ass people.  This week's lineup includes Janeane Garafolo, Adam Wade, Nisse Greeneberg, Steve Heisler, Josh Gondelman, and of course Kerri Doherty. Do it! Doors 8pm, Show 8:30pm, $5 adv, $8 day of show

Wednesday, April 2, Night BINGO, Royal Palms Shuffle Board Club: Holy shitballs on fire—have the planets aligned!? This is the full realiztion and marriage of my future geriatric days. This shit is like the real life wet dream of the cast of cocoon. Okay, okay, I'm done.  7pm-10pm, FREE Admission, $2 per BINGO card

So there you have it.  A week of tender morsels from which to pluck your next outing.  If you attend one of these fabulous events drop me a line and let me know what you thought.

That's WHASSUP!
