We're Getting a New, Bad-ass Movie Theater!

Moviegoers, rejoice!

Famed movie theater Alamo has announced a third location in the New York area, which’ll be situated right here in the city’s finest borough. The Brooklyn location, to open in 2015, joins previously announced Upper West Side and Yonkers projects. Located within the City Point complex which’ll anchor the Flatbush Avenue end of the Fulton Mall, the Drafthouse will be nestled cozily between such retailers as Armani Exchange and Century 21. (Movies AND discount designer fashion? It’s too much!)

What’s so great about this Texan export? Oh, so many things, but here’s the most important: no talking. This theater actually kicks you out if you’re caught talking during the movie. Seriously, it says so on their website.

What else is great about the Drafthouse? They serve food and drinks during the movie. They do this using magic, because there is no way a fleet of “ninja waiters” could possibly exist, as they’ve explicated on their website. So here’s what’s actually happening: house elves prepare and serve the food on tables just below your theater and then use magic to transport the food through the ceiling.

The Drafthouse also loves special events: Quote-Alongs, for your friends who (still) like to recite verbatim the Alotta Fagina scene from Austin Powers. Hecklevison, for those of us who think seeing our tweets on a movie screen would be the ultimate achievement. And Girlie Nights, for excellent movies like Dirty Dancing and Clueless and perhaps some vague sexism.

Brownstone Brooklynites have long been starved for quality movie houses, and Drafthouse might just provide a welcome respite from The Worst Movie Theater Ever (The Pavillion) or the raucous Court Street Theater. Sure there’s BAM, and I liked Pina in 3D as much as the next guy, but where are we to go when what we crave is The Avengers? Must we really venture all the way to Battery Park to see studio movies?
