We Are Gowanus: Popping Up Everywhere
The Rock & Roll Playhouse Impact from We Are Gowanus on Vimeo.
The newly formed activist group We Are Gowanus is nothing if not resourceful. As we reported on May 24th, the group stands strong in opposition of Peter Shapiro’s proposed kiddie-rock palace. Their most recent protest is in the form of a highly produced digital short, which represents how the establishment will change the face of the neighborhood.
First off, I’d like to recognize some badass production value. Somebody has serious knowhow and a bunch of time on their hands. The video transported me to the sound of Brooklyn birds chirping away. I felt almost gleeful, viewing the building tops from high above. As the camera panned the digital neighborhood, chirping gave way to a solid rock beat. Muse’s Stockholm Syndrome could be made out as the I enjoyed a fly-through of their representation of the club.
Backfire alert: We Are Gowanus’ video makes this place look fucking awesome. I mean, I was totally against it and then they showed me how cool it’s going to be. There’s lots of people and music, probably even cold beer. Even the birds seem to love it.
You’re going to have to do more to convince us, We Are Gowanus. I think you should throw your own party for the hood! You know, really stick it to the man.
1 point for Shapiro!
