Valentine's Day Marketing Is Out Of Control
Yesterday, we profiled a Valentine's Day couples boxing workout, and now I've just heard that the Newtown Creek sewage treatment plant in Greenpoint is offering special Valentine's Day tours. In fact, they were initially offering two tours at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., but quickly added another at 11 a.m. due to "overwhelming demand." I shit you not. According the tour host and superintendent, Jim Pynn:
The highlight of the tour is the Greenpoint Avenue plant’s giant egg-shaped digesters which break down the noxious waste into harmless sludge and gas.
The digester eggs are 130 feet tall and offer great views of the city from the top.
How romantic!
I can't help but wonder what other businesses might try and get in on the V-Day action. Maybe Ikea could offer a couples furniture-building workshop. Or one of the auto-body shops on 4th Avenue could teach couples how to change a tire. Or a dentist could offer couples root canals.
