Two Women Attacked Near de Blasio's 11th Street Home on Friday Night

Last Friday night, FIPS writer NineDaves was walking from the subway to his home on 11th Street, when he was stopped by the de Blasio police detail who warned him about walking alone with his cell phone out in full view. They went on to say that a woman was jumped by four 15-year-olds around 7-7:30 on 6th Ave and 12th St. According to the cops, "they beat her up good." De Blasio's cops heard the woman screaming and ran to help. They got one of the guys right away, but the others ran up toward the park, where they apparently attacked and mugged another woman before running into Junior's, a bodega on 12th Street and 8th Ave. According to a FIPS twitter follower, the clerk at Junior's dragged them outside where they were apprehended by cops in a patrol car.

This seems to be happening more and more frequently, lately. Just two months ago, there were two 12 year olds, students at MS51, who were mugged by older teens on their way home from school. And we posted in January about a woman who was shoved into a car and beaten on Park Place. A few weeks ago, I saw this posting on the Prospect Heights Parents Listserv:

My husband got mugged at gun point today, I thought I should warn people to be careful. It happened near 280 Park Place (between Vanderbilt and Underhill) at 2:15pm. He was not on his cell and was walking at a good pace. There were groups of teenagers on both sides of the block, and he thinks the mugger probably used the groups to blend in and not be spotted. He didn't seem to be part of the groups. As my husband passed him, he nudged his shoulder in and put a big silver gun to my husbands stomach and told him to give all his money. After giving him cash he had loose in his pocket, the man asked him if that was it and after my husband said yes the man asked him for his cellphone, told him to stand still, and then go. My husband ran as fast as he could towards Vanderbilt. He saw a police car right away and flagged it down. He proceeded to ride around the neighborhood looking for the suspect but no luck. The man probably had an accomplice and took off in a car since he vanished so quickly. My husband was then taken to the 77th precinct to do a report.

Held up at gunpoint in the middle of the afternoon. Fucked up. Be careful out there people.
