The Owner of the crushed car on Garfield Is Looking to His Fellow Brooklyn residents for support
If you wandered around the neighborhood in the days following Hurricane Sandy, there's a good chance you saw the GIGANTIC tree that had fallen onto and crushed a white Honda on Garfield between 6th and 7th Avenues. The owner is hoping that some of the few hundred people who stopped to gawk and take photos of his car will pitch in a few shillings to help him get back on the road:
Hi Everyone - Sandy left most of Park Slope untouched, but unkindly felled a tree that completely crushed my car. I live in Brooklyn but teach in Newark, NJ. Without my car I cannot reliably get to school, pick up 2 other teachers in my carpool, or get home quickly in the event that my wife goes into labor (she's 8.5 months pregnant).
I'm not one to ask random people for financial help, but the gap between the insurance payout and a replacement car will be thousands of dollars. Any assistance you can give will get me back on the road!
Thank you!
Here's the link if you want to donate. So far he's raised about half of his goal.
(UPDATE: Yes, we realize that lots of people are in need at the moment, and plenty are in more dire situations, but we've been covering that aspect of the hurricane's aftermath as well. Please feel free to battle it out in the comments as to who is allowed to ask for help and who isn't.)
