The Brooklyn Cyclones Is Hosting A Park Slope Night
Hey Coney Island, get out those organic artisan hot dogs and kale-laced sauerkraut on gluten free buns, make sure you don't serve anything from Eden Organics, and make sure you have plenty of stroller parking (have I missed any stereotypes) cause our 'hood is coming down your way this Sunday. That's right FIPS'ters, Park Slope Parents is hosting a Park Slope Night at MCU Park. Here's how the evening is described on the e-flyer:
Enjoy a Brooklyn Cyclones game at MCU Park and celebrate historic Park Slope and the Battle of Brooklyn. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Old Stone House & Washington Park.
Wait? What the what? There's so much going here. Historic Park Slope and the Battle of Brooklyn? AND a Cyclones game? I'm intrigued (and confused), tell me more about how the ill-fated and largest Revolutionary Battle of Brooklyn (known to the rest of the world as the Battle of Long Island) and Park Slope Night are intertwined.
Located in a reconstructed 1699 Dutch farmhouse that was central to the Battle of Brooklyn, the Old Stone House & Washington Park is a museum and community resource that explores the American Revolution, colonial life and contemporary culture. The park, the original home of the Brooklyn Dodgers, now hosts numerous local sports leagues.
Oh I get it now, the proceeds of the Park Slope Night go toward the Old Stone House, which is our neighborhood's bastion of all things olde timey Revolution. For a minute there I thought there was going to be a re-enactment of the Battle of Brooklyn on MCU Field. Oh wait... they are having a re-enactment?
There will be a Battle reenactment prior to the game at Green-Wood cemetery on August 24 from 10 am – 2 pm.
Well that is a packed day, Green-wood cemetery to Coney, the Brits beat the Rebels 300 to 64 (that's the body count) from Gowanus to Prospect Park, and Park Slope takes over MCU field . Truth be told, the real anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn is August 27. But I'm cool with pouring some out for my Rebel home slices a few days early.
Anywho, all kidding aside, the Park Slope Cyclones package includes a field box ticket to Sunday night's game against the Tri-City Valley Cats and a free souvenir hat. Game starts at 5PM and I'll bet it's going to be a fun time. To purchase tickets you can go here or call 1-800-507-TIXX. Do it or George Washington will cry.
