The 7th Ave Turnstiles Still Suck
Back in April a bunch of people (mostly us) were bitching about the 7th Avenue F/G train turnstiles and their inability to function properly. FiPS reader Steve even sat down and constructed a nice little note to the MTA, and they were like, "Thanks, Steve. The turnstiles just need to be cleaned. WE'RE ON IT." I don't ride the F or G much, but Steve does, and recently wrote to let us know that this is still an issue. He reached out to the MTA uh-gain:
Dear Friends at the MTA,
I mentioned already that the turnstiles were sporadic and slow and Dwayne A. Anglero responded to me on 02/17/2011 telling me that these would be monitored and work would be done. Well, it's 6 months later and the lines continue. For the past 2 days, we have been down to just 1 working turnstile (the other is NO ENTRY and has a sign and tape over the swiper). MTA, this is completely unacceptable. I don't know how many people go through this station, but the rates are going way up (much faster than inflation or any cost of living adjustment you could do - even with fuzzy, new math) so service should be better, repairs should be quicker, and service should run more efficiently. In what other service industry would you pay MORE for WORSE service? Please see to it that this is fixed posthaste. I love New York and I want to love my extensive subway service along with it. Every neighborhood matters and I hate to see my service go downhill while all signs (including your own ads) point to improvement all around.
Thank you for your time and continued dedication to excellence.
Sincerely,
Steve
Polite and to the point, Steve. And here's what the MTA had to say in response:
We again truly regret if you encountered difficulty while using our subway system.
Please be assured that the safety, comfort and security of our customers are our highest priorities. We have forwarded your e-mail to supervision in our Department of Subways for review and investigation.
