Take the R train to work? Brace yourself for a year (or more) of suckage

Well, this was bad news to wake up to for a lot of people. Apparently, the Montague St. tunnel, through which the R train passes on its way to Manhattan, sustained the most extensive damage from Hurricane Sandy. We all remember those photos of the Whitehall St. - S. Ferry Station filled to the top of the escalators with sea water. They had to pump 27 million gallons of water out of that tunnel! As a result, the R train has been having signal problems and such ever since, and the MTA says they will have to shut it down for nearly 14 months to make the necessary fixes. According to the NY Daily News:
The MTA is drafting service plans to ferry riders between Manhattan and Brooklyn without use of the Montague Tunnel. One source said hat on weekdays, the authority may have some Manhattan-bound trains terminate at Atlantic Ave., where riders would have to switch to other trains like the 2, 3, 4 and 5. Some R trains would head over the Manhattan Bridge under such a "split service" weekday plan, the source said.
Do you take the R train? How badly does this fuck up your commute?
