So, it's lookin like its gonna be a loooong, hot, wet, American summer around the BK.
Yesterday eve, word started trickling in from BK residents that Con Ed was making the phone rounds...and basically begging all y'all to turn off any "non-essential" electrical appliances.
Refrigerators were given a pass, but AC's not so much.
Apparently the heat of the last few days is sending electricity usage through the effin roof...and now bitches are worried about a brown out.
Gothamist managed to FURTHER clarify shit with a press release from Con Ed late last evening:
"Because of problems on electrical equipment supplying power to several neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Con Edison has reduced voltage by 8 percent to the area... One affected area is bounded by Newtown Creek on the north, Graham Avenue and Throop Avenue on the east, Fulton Street and Pacific Street on the south and the East River on the west. The other affected area is bounded by Fifth Avenue to Prospect Park West and from Pacific Street to 23rd Street.
"Company crews are working now to repair the problems. Con Edison has asked customers in the affected area to turn off all non-essential electrical appliances to help reduce electricity usage until equipment problems can be resolved... Con Edison urges customers to call 1-800-75-CONED promptly if they are experiencing any service difficulties."
As for wtf is going on today, I have no clue. I haven't been outside yet, but I'm guessing that it's Africa hot again, and my ass will be a sweaty mess by the time I arrive at the subway.
So yeah: be careful and don't waste energy-n-shit! Cause I SWEAR TO GAWD, if I gotta endure this heat without any AC, shit's gonna get ug-lay around here. Like Dexter ug-lay.
REDUCE, RE-USE, RECYCLE! OR CONSERVE! WHATEVER!
