Dumb Ass Teens Set the Park on Fire

pic by Rob Jett

Around 2:45 on Tuesday afternoon, a bird-watcher by the name of Rob Jett was happily... watching birds, I guess, when he saw three teens fleeing from a section of Prospect Park called Rocky Pass. The area suddenly became engulfed with smoke. Jett told local blog "A Walk in the Park"“I heard them laughing and running down the path towards the Nethermead Meadow. I [saw] smoke coming up from where they had just been.”

Via NY1

While on its way to yesterday's blaze on 7th avenue, a fire truck collided with a jeep, which was forced up onto the curb and into the side of an apartment building.

The accident occured at Bergen Street and New York Avenue in Crown Heights, and left two firefighters and two civilians were injured.

Be careful out there, people!

Fire on 7th Avenue

Earlier today, a fire broke out in an apartment building at 152 7th avenue, just above Szechuan Delight. The street was blocked off from 1st to Lincoln Place, but by the time I reached the scene the fire trucks were just leaving, and everything seemed to be under control. The Here's Park Slope dude got there a bit quicker, and described the scene as such:

"At least six fire trucks are on the scene along with several more auxilliary vehicles and ambulances, and while it looks as if there were no injuries, several firefighters and onlookers on the scene were being treated with oxygen masks."

He adds that it doesn't look like there were any serious injuries, though some onlookers, including firefighters, were being treated on the street with oxygen masks.

Here's another photo sent by an anon FiPS reader. There's something very Twister-esque about it...

Cigarette Causes Park Slope House Fire, Injures 5

Eric Michael Johnson for The New York Times

Yesterday around 12:15PM, flames blazed through a three story walk-up on President Street between 4th and 5th avenues. Police say the fire was caused by a cigarette placed atop a mattress, and has left an infant and a man in his 20's in critical condition. Three additional occupants are being treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

The New York Times published a pretty terrifying account of the story yesterday. Here's an excerpt:

Neighbors on President Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues were alerted to the fire by screaming and the sound of shattering glass, which drew them to their stoops and windows.
