COFFEE WARS: Gorilla To Open on Monday!

That's right, bitchez! You heard it here first second.

"Gorilla Coffee, the juggernaut Park Slope java-and-lifestyle dispensary that has been closed since April 9 after the entire staff quit to protest a “perpetually malicious, hostile and demeaning work environment,” will reopen Monday. So said the smiling woman inside the half-rolled-up gate of the shop at Fifth Avenue and Park Place at 7 Friday evening."

[Also, love how the NYT called us "other blogs." And by "love," I mean TOTALLYFUCKINGANNOYED].

COFFE WARS: MORE GORILLA COFFEE DIRT

Ok, first a teeny bit more explanation about what went down at the Speciality Coffee of America Exposition (SCAA) in Anaheim (to catch all your asses up, we posted last week about how this chick from Coffea Cultura apparently left the conference early after a run-in from some combative ex-pat Gorilla employees). Here's some more:

"It ended for me after encountering some of the ex-Gorilla Coffee baristas who were just looking for people to abuse, while contemplating the horrible Database Cafe booth of anti-Obama literature. What did that have to do with coffee anyway, and why did the baristas attack me, just for engaging in a conversation with the interesting woman working the booth? I do not know, but it soured my mind and I left for the airport immediately."

Also, Table Turner left this comment on the above referenced FIPS post:

"This is so not surprising.  i was at the conference in question and been in the biz many years.  bearing in mind that our business was BUILT on slave trade, oppression and exploitation, i never saw a bigger group of self aggrandizing, over entitled HATERS in coffee than this years slag off  "barista" contingent.  i got the feeling these gorilla kids are the new lizard kings of this whole subculture.  So unprofessional and very discouraging to those of us trying to inspire poeple through coffee."

At this point, I'm pretty sure that the only person who could get to the bottom of this whole situation is Chris fucking Matthews. Honestly, my head is spinning from all this shit, but still: I CAN'T GET ENOUGH.

COFFEE WARS: Gorilla Coffee Employees Fighting the Fight in Other States Now!?

What the fuck this *even* means, I can barely comprehend but from what I can gather, here's the scoop:

  • There was a conference last week called The Specialty Coffee of America Exposition in Anaheim, CA (SCAA).

  • Some chick named Jaime Vandura from Coffea Cultura was conducting "private cuppings" (don't ask) and available for chatting at their booth at said event.

  • All of this information was publicly posted on their site.

Then, the chick leaves this comment on the site on 4/18 at 4:34am:

"I have left Anaheim already, my apologies. There were some confrontations with ex-Gorilla Coffee baristas who seemed to be looking for new conflicts. I thought it was better to depart and deal with it later. -J"

Then some other dude named Matthew Hill left the following comment on 4/18 at a more reasonable 10:24pm:

"Jaime – Sorry I missed you. Yes, the Gorilla thing is out of control. At least one of them was at our booth and very hostile – said decaf espresso is not possible..."

DAYM!?

WTF people??

Ok, so again, I have zero clue what all this actually means, but I'm slightly confused by reports of ex-Gorilla employees who now seem to be looking to take their Battle Royale national?

Anyone have scoop?
