FiPS Exclusive: Want to see How the Barclays Center Is Coming Along?

If you're like me (and let's just pretend, because obviously you're not as crazy as I am, but let's just pretend for a second that you are), you've recently walked by the Barclays Center and thought, Is this eyesore going to be finished in time for the upcoming season!? I have Barbra Streisand tickets! Don't rain on my parade, construction workers!

Based on the above (and freshly-snapped) photo, obtained from an anonymous source exclusively for FiPS, you can see at least SOME of the 18,000 seats that will fill the $1 billion arena have already been installed. This is great news for sports fans, Jews, and gays alike! There's a lot of work left to be done here, but it looks like America's most-hated construction site is well on it's way to becoming America's most-hated sports arena.

Sans the blue tape, of course. What do you think -- is it a step up or down from the current New Jersey logo?

Barclay Center Owner Has No Desire to Buy Brooklyn Real Estate

Photo via www.ibtimes.comThough Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov paid $1 BILLION for the Barclay Center, the 58th wealthiest man in the world has no desire to drop some chump change on a Brooklyn pad for days when he visits the borough for Nets games and Jay-Z concerts.

“I’m a rich Russian who would drive up the prices,” Prokhorov told the Brooklyn Paper.  “It’s not the best time to buy for me.”

I guess he'll just land his private jet in Prospect Park and use high-speed rocket packs to shuttle his ass to and from the stadium.

THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING... TO THE BARCLAY CENTER

Another interesting deal has gone down at the Barclay Center, or "The Mos Eisley Space Port of sporting venues," as I prefer to call it. Last week Kontinental Hockey League President Alexander Medvedev said that the Barflay Center will host regular season games and exhibitions starting next year. Just to clarify, KHL is a hockey league comprised of teams from Russia, Belrus, Latvia, Slovakia and some other countries with a lot of K's and Z's. Basically it's the Eastern Block on ice, and Brooklyn will be their first home in North America! This will be sweet for hockey fans (though I am not one of them).

Here's what Medvedev had to say [via Yahoo Sports]:

The Barclays Center Seeks Brooklyn Eateries for Vendor Consideration

Our new fangled NBA, sports and events arena wants to keep things real by featuring Brooklyn food and bevs in an attempt to pay homage to the borough. In other words, they want to offer up vending spots to local joints that can offer things a bit more unique than $32 nachos.

Having visited a significant number of sports arenas around the country, the food and bev choices often suck and are disgustingly overpriced.  That said, many sporting venues have been upping their game when it comes to food (drum roll, please):
