[SPONSORED] Why You Need Renter's Insurance

Oh hey there, slick.  You think that just because you live in someone else's apartment building that you don't need renter's insurance?  THINK AGAIN.

Think about all of the times your sketchy landlord has "fixed" a leaking pipe with some silly putty and duct tape.  Not having control over the condition of the place where you keep all of your precious belongings (AKA anything made by Apple) is all the more reason for you to get insurance.

Renter's insurance is super cheap—some policies start at as little as $75 a year (that's only $6.25 a month.  Forego one beer a month and you've got it covered) and cover you and your stuff from any kind of damage that happens to your apartment (fire, leaking ceilings, etc), as well as theft (AKA some jerk breaking in through your fire escape and jacking your flat screen).

Here are the following reasons why you need renter's insurance:

1. It's cheap.
2. It gives you piece of mind.  One of our FIPS writers had a flight to catch before Christmas last year when her ceiling decided to open up and start gushing Niagara Falls into her living room.  She moved her couch, laid down some towels, and headed off to JFK without much worry.  Why?  Her renter's insurance would cover any damage that the leak caused to her stuff (you better believe her landlord probably wouldn't have helped out).
3. Your Dad would approve (call him, he'll tell you).

Seriously, I know you want to spend all of your money on alcohol and stupid iPad apps, but just do it.

Allstate Steven Schneider Agency (336 9th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Aves, 718-686-1200) offers Renter's Insurance policies starting at $75 per year.  If you stop in for a quote, mention FIPS and you'll get a free $10 gift card.
