SANDY AFTERMATH OPEN POST
Good morning, Park Slope. We hope you are safe, and well, and that Sandy didn't kick your ass last night. We want to hear all about what's going on in your Park Slope neck of the woods! Send pics to effedinparkslope@gmail.com and keep us updated in the comments.
Union & 8th Ave/Erica
Aside from big swath piles of leaves, not much is going on immediately around me. However, there is a big tree down on President between 7th & 8th Aves. The mesh surrounding the scaffolding on an apt building on the corner of Union/8th Ave has been ripped up and is blowing in the wind. All other scaffolding in the immediate area seems to be in tact. Our power never went out once, and even many of the outdoor Halloween decorations that were up are still in tact. Cars are driving around, though nowhere near normal levels yet. Oh yeah: and both Bagel Market AND La Bagel are open and starting to get busy. At least n this part of N. Park Slope, we seem to have made it through pretty well.

1st St btwn 5th/6th Aves/Daniel
Street has been blocked by a downed tree limb since last night. And all the construction stuff on the front of the forthcoming David's Tea at 7th and 4th was pulled down.
5th Ave & Berkeley/Mike
Here is a shot I took at about 8am this morning across the street from my apt. This is right behind 5th avenue market.
Jeep Cherokee and Toyotaish looking thing holding up a massive downed branch behind 5th avenue market at Berkeley.

Self-explanatory.
Stratford and Westminster Roads, between Beverley Road and Cortelyou in Ditmas Park/Thomas
In Kensington and Ditmas Park there are tons of branches down, and more than a few large trees that have fallen. There was a big tree down on Ocean Parkway and Ave. C. But most of the damage is on the other side of Coney Island Avenue. On Stratford and Westminster, there are about a dozen trees of varying sizes that have come down. Two of those trees fell directly into houses. One is completely blocking Westminster, and the intersection of Westminster and Sloan Place is blocked by another tree.

Pretty mild in South Slope -- at 18th and 5th there's a dangling walk signal.
12th Street and 6th Ave / Mike D
This smallish tree sort of collapsed, more than fell, partially over a car. At around 12th and 6th (I think?). Anyway, note the kids climbing in the fallen branches while their parents watch, because--PARK SLOPE!
