Okay, it's official. Park Slope and surrounds will not be getting top honors EVER AGAIN for being the city's best neighborhood. 

I've been saying for months that this crappy economy is driving the dwindling middle-class peeps of Brooklyn round the bend. We are even officially the most stressy people in the United States.

So I guess I should be relieved that my 12-year-old hasn't hacked me to pieces with a samurai sword in my living room but, really, what's going on???

Yesterday morning, an actor nobody's ever heard of but who is allegedly a star of stage and screen (Ugly Betty background actor and Step-Up 3D), apparently found God. And God apparently told him to stab his mom with his samurai sword in her Park Place apartment while shouting "repent sinner" and "you never accepted Jesus."

So, of course, the police did everything they could when called to the scene of an unfolding slaughter, right? Ray Kelly will be issuing medals of commendation for stellar response any day now. 

Well, no. Because, according to neighbors, when the cops arrived 15 minutes after they got the call, they spent 45 minutes knocking on the fucking door! They are more aggressive issuing summonses for sitting on your front stoop than when duty REALLY calls.

Neighbors said the cops stood outside the door for close to an hour - and even left the scene at one point - before finally entering.

"I could hear her groaning inside ... She was still alive, but they wouldn't go in," said Clinton Clare, 52, who lived in the apartment below the Brea family.

and

"I heard a 'Help me!' shriek," said Vernal Bent, 18, who lived in the apartment above. "Police kept knocking on the door. Knocking and knocking ... All of us kept saying, 'Open the door.'"

and 

Sydney, whose father owns the building, said his dad gave four cops permission to break down the front door. They just kept saying protocol this and protocol that," Sydney added.

and

"His poor mother must have been terrified, and the cops just stood a few feet away," said Sydney's brother, Gregory, one of several residents who vainly begged police to burst inside.

Jesus H. Christ! This poor, poor woman.
