Prime 6 NYC v. Park Slope

R'uh R'oh.

Apparently a new two-floor club/lounge called Prime 6 NYC is going in at the old Royal Video spot on 6th Ave and Flatbush. There will be live music...and some sports bar shit...and they're even planning some back yard outdoor seating area. And yep, you guesed it: some Park Slope residents are ready to go Loco over the whole thing.

Now I honestly have no clue if this club is a good idea or not, however, I'm having way too much fun reading between the lines to notice. Join me!

The Brooklyn Paper says:

"...Residents believe that the bar will target a hoops and hip-hop crowd that will be raucous before and after games..."

I read that as: poor [insert favorite minority group here] ppl will be playing loud music and probably stealing shit from us as we walk by from the Bergen Street subway stop. 

A local Brooklyn writer, Steve Ettinger, who's quoted in the BP article AND emailed us at FIPS says:

“It is completely in conflict with an internationally famous, family oriented area...and everyone who has approached the owner has been rudely rebuffed.”

I read that as: AYFKMWTS?? THIS IS PARK SLOPE! WE ARE FAMOUS! We don't need a club for [insert favorite minority group here] ppl. Unless Prime 6 NYC is code for: locavore Coop Daycare center, we don't want any.

"On the bar’s Facebook page, where the Prime 6 logo is in the shape of a basketball, many of the “friends” are musicians and DJs.

The webpage also includes a link to the “Prime 6 mixed CD,” which was created by hip hop artist DJ Big Jeff, who has songs titled, “Motha F–ka, I’m Ill” and “New Money.”

I read that as: Let us reiterate: PRIME 6 NYC IS GONNA BE BLASTING RAP MUSIC ALL DAY-N-NIGHT, MOTHERFUCKAS! They are friends with DJ's and musicians and shit!? DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS??? WE WILL TELL YOU WHAT IT MEANS: YOU WILL PROBS BE MURDERED THERE.

And lastly:

"The bar’s Myspace page looks a little different; it has 300 friends, most of whom are attractive women, posing suggestively."

I read that as: The place will definitely be filled with lots of sluts and whores.

Anyway.

In true Park Slope form, a protest pack mob is forming as I type. And the angry crowd plans to descend on the Community Board 6 Meeting tonight and show em who's boss to protest this whole thing. So if you wanna join in on the fun, shit's goin down at the YMCA (357 Ninth St. between Fifth and Sixth avenues) tonight at 6:30 pm.
