PBS Wants To Spoon Park Slope

You live in Park Slope so you listen to NPR and watch PBS. It’s a fact. We love that shit and that shit loves us. What’s that? You didn’t give during PBS’s last pledge drive? Is that making you feel more guilty than my straight off the boat Italian grandmother made my mom feel for working outside the home? Non proprio she would mutter, meaning “not right,” pinching her fingers to her lips as if something tasted sour. Here’s your chance to make things right with dear ol’ PBS. My grandmother’s dead, so her chance is long gone.

PBS is producing a crowd-sourced documentary titled Brooklyn Best that will air on PBS New York stations. They contacted us requesting we get the word out to all you FIPsters. They’re seeking stories, pictures and videos. PBS loves Park Slope so much they want to make sure we’re in the documentary. According to their site, the doc will showcase:

…stories of our neighbors, as they recall their most treasured memories and share their local insights about growing up, living in, and experiencing the culture of New York's "borough of Kings.”

You can view entries that are already submitted as well as submit your own on their site. Park Slope is already represented…but barely. So dig up photos of the time you made out with Bob Dylan after he played Celebrate Brooklyn. Kudos for capturing it! Find that childhood picture of you in pigtails standing in front of the Park Slope brownstone your parents bought for 50K in the 1970’s and then sold for a gazillion dollars last year. Again kudos…as well as, grrrr! Wax poetic about the time you got a disease when you accidentally wandered into Prospect Park’s Anonymous Fornication Forrest or how in the good ol’ days you used to visit our local movie theater without having to make appointments for therapy and/or extermination afterwards, or even video from your Park Slope wedding that made all your dreams come true.

If you can’t donate some Park Slope history, there is always the option to pledge. Donating to both would be cool. Donating to neither would be non proprio.
