Parents Form Group to Make New K-5 School as Hot as P.S. 321

There’s a new school in town, and parents are gearing up for it to be P.S. 321, part deaux. After the Department of Education's recent school rezoning proposal passed, some Park Slope homeowners and renters who purposely bought or found places in P.S. 321’s district were pretty pissed. No longer would their beloved offspring be eligible for the coveted K-5 school. They'll now be sent to a yet-to-be-named school in the St. Thomas Aquinas building on 8th Ave and 4th Street.
But alas, Park Slope parents do not fuck around.
They went straight to work raising funds and have been collaborating with the staff of P.S. 321 to get the new school up and running in top form for the first Kindergarten class in September. The parents group (an unofficial PTA) may even form a non-profit to fundraise and apply for grants so they can make sure to provide all the amenities of P.S. 321 with the benefits of a much smaller school.
"We want to have an equal reputation, an equal number of special subject offerings," says Matthew Didner, a dad of a future student and part of the parents group. "We want to make sure they have art and gym and music. We want to make sure they get all the resources they would have had, had they gone to P.S. 321, but without the overcrowding."
Though Park Slope parents can be totally overwhelming, and really irritating to share the sidewalk with, dangit...they really do kick ass and make shit happen when it comes to their little Florence and Jacks' well-being. Kudos to these breeders who are taking a bad situation and attempting to raise little humans that might someday contribute to society.

it's great to see parents so involved in their kids k-8 education but what options are there for high school other than the failure factory on 7th ave and 4th, getting in to a top school like stuy, or being able to afford a private school? a charter high school needs to be started in the area to alleviate the aforementioned issues.
