OMFG: Bike Lanes Subpoena Smack Down

Like kiddies and teachers from school, I thought I'd have the summer off from writing about the PPW bike lane. But alas, it appears that the foes of the much-enjoyed bike thoroughfare, Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes, never rest or go to a beach or stop fucking being cry babies. No one except the Seniors for Safety wants to hear their bullsh.

Park Slope Patch covered the latest twist in this endless waste of everyone's time and money. Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes and Seniors for Safety have slapped a big ole subpoena across the faces of the Department of Transportation and City Council Member Brad Lander, forcing them to testify in a hearing scheduled for next Wednesday.

And what will they be made to testify (besides how much of the neighborhood loves the bike lane or how it's slowing down vehicular traffic on Prospect Park West or that most people just don't give a flying eff)? Let's hear from Jim Walden, the attorney who is handling the case for NBBL and SFS pro bono.

Via Park Slope Patch:

The City is trying to avoid litigation on a technicality, which is based on a lie.

A lie? Interesting. Go on.

After having told the public and various elected officials the bike lane was a trial project, the City now makes the incredible claim the lane was permanent all along, and that our suit was filed too late. The City is desperately trying to avoid litigating the merits of our suit because it cannot justify its misuse of data and failure to conduct a proper safety study.

Now wait just a damn minute. A few months ago weren't you suing the DOT for withholding all this "data" and then when you received said "data" you claimed it was falsified? Now the city just straight up lied to you about the bike lane being temporary.

Let's hear from my bro, Eric McClure, co-founder of the group Park Slope Neighbors, who always has something nice to say:

Mr. Walden and his clients are mistaken on a number of fronts, among them their claim that the redesign of Prospect Park West -- which was requested by the Community Board in a years-long process -- was in some way a ‘trial.’ It's clear to everyone but them that it was intended to be a permanent redesign, and it's clear to anyone who has experienced the redesigned PPW that it is much, much safer for everyone who uses the street.

Aw, thanks Eric. You always know just what buttons to push.

NBBL and SFS: can I give you a bit of advice? Your case may be a little more credible and compelling if you stopped pulling things out of your ass. Just. Let. It. Go.
