Occupy Corcoran on Carroll Street

An anynomous FIPS'ter clued us in to a guy who was protesting outside of the Corcoran office on Carroll Street yesterday afternoon. Was he standing there in solidarity with Occupy (INSERT CITY NAME HERE)? Not exactly. Apparently this man is pissed as shit with Corcoran for dooping him on botched apartment sale.

As I dug a little deeper into the story (aka using Google), I learned that this guy's name is David Huber. He staged a similiar protest a few days ago in front of Corcoran's Montague Street office yesterday, and its Fort Greene office this past Friday. According to the Brooklyn Heights Blog Huber claimes he put in an accepted offer on an apartment, arranged for a mortage, and paid "some out of pocket expenses," only to find out that the building did not have a certificate of occupancy. And so the deal went bust. Huber then asked Corcoran if he would be reimbursed for his expenses. They said no.  

Corcoran quickly cited New York state law clearly outlining the principal of Buyer Beware stating that it's the buyer's responsibility to inquire about the Certificate of Occupancy. Brooklyn Heights Blog said this:

Huber concedes that she [Corcoran Exec] was correct in her statement of the law, but questions whether it is a good business practice to apply that principle to cases like his. “[S]hould real estate be a high-risk game of obfuscation and obstruction?” 

Huber has set up a blog as well bitching about the agency. I guess he'll spend even more of his time and money occupying sidewalks because he didn't do his homework before he went to buy an apartment. 

And if this trend of protesting everything that makes us unhappy in this country continues can we please start occupying SOMEWHERE over the disgusting state of 7th Avenue? I mean, I snapped this pic (today). It's pretty damn awful.

Perhaps you're trying to be satirically humorous, but it comes off as condescending and douche-baggy. Perhaps he didn't do his research and got scammed, but at least he is letting other people know so they can't be tricked as well. Instead of the occupancy though he should file a report with the BBB, if Corocan is even accredited
