Bushwick perfomance artist Marni Kotak is having a baby! So what, right? Women have babies all the time. Well this gal is giving birth inside of an art gallery as part of a performance piece.
"The Birth Of Baby X," or the "Holy Shit: Voyeurism Project," as I like to call it, is taking place at the Microscope Gallery in Bushwick. Kotak will be on display daily from 11AM-6PM through November, or until the baby is birthed, whichever comes first!
“I was really surprised that it had never been done,” Kotak tells the Brooklyn Paper. REALLY? Really. I don't know about the rest of you ladies, but I wouldn't want people watching me sweat and scream and curse my engorged lady parts.
For those who wish to witness this event, you're probably thinking, Waitaminute... does this mean I have to camp out at this exhibit until she gives birth? Nope! You can sign up to receive texts and emails about the progress of the labor, which will probably go something like this:
You and a friend are eating lunch at Song. Your phone beeps.
Friend: So! The finale of Breaking Bad, right?! Fucking cra---
You: [checks phone] Holy shit! Marni's in labor!
Friend: Oh my God! Is that your girlfriend?
You: [grabbing jacket] Nope!
Friend: Sister?
You: Nope! Stranger. I'm just going to watch. Can you get my pad thai to go? [rushes out door]
But hey, women give birth in weird places. A few summers back I returned home on 7th street to find this sign taped to my front door. I lived in apartment NINE, by the way. It was a less than pleasurable evening.
