President Obama is coming to Brooklyn on Friday to visit P-Tech high school in Crown Heights, a school he praised in his State of the Union address earlier this year. On Tuesday, Notify NYC sent out an alert that a helicopter would be landing in Prospect Park. Turns out, that was a practice run for the President's arrival on Friday. Yep, that's right, the President will make his grand arrival by touching down in our very own backyard. As a result the entire park will be closed from 12pm - 6pm tomorrow.
Not everyone is happy about this. OF COURSE. Because we are New Yorkers, we must complain about everything. From The New York Times:
“It’s a big inconvenience, especially with the New York City Marathon coming up,” said Carlos Valentino, manager of Mr. C’s Cycles in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. “People have limited time. The weather is good. There are many athletes who have a window of opportunity to do what they have to do.”
Six hours. The park will be closed for six hours. In the middle of the day! That's it. For THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. You really can't find somewhere else to run for six hours???
What do you think? How incovenient is it that the park will be closed?
