NYC Food Film Festival: Review

The Fourth Annual NYC Food Film Festival showed up in DUMBO this past weekend, and maybe it was the food, maybe it was the fact that I am ridiculously in love with DUMBO, maybe it was the heat stroke affecting the part of my brain that controls all cognitive reasoning—but I really liked this festival.

Because of the fact that I hate everyone and everything, it's a given that I hate crowds.  Combine that with the reality that being in New York City lately seems to be the equivalent to hanging out on the surface of the sun, and you would have guessed that I wouldn't be especially enthusiastic to go to some festival and be crammed in with a bunch of jerks as we all sweat and smell together.

What I liked about the events at the NYCFFF was that while they had a good amount of people at their events, I never felt like I was crowded enough to start having a panic attack.

The Food Truck Drive-In was on Saturday, and while there were a lot of people milling about, the only long line for food was for The Krave Truck.  While there were over 20 trucks there (including Sweet Treats, the Hot Blondies, Wafels & Dinges, The Milk Truck, Rickshaw Dumpling Bar, etc) hawking their wares, we ended up having Pizzamoto, which was pretty awesome.

Sunday brought the Brooklyn Burger 'n' Beer Garden in the old Tobacco Warehouse.  I'll try to ignore the fact that there is a VERY similar event hosted by a certain celebrity chef serving up burgers in the exact same location ("try" was the operative word here).  For $55, attendees could chow down on burgers from Pat LaFrieda, Whole Foods, and Burger Maker and chug beers from several different breweries, though probz most notable was Brooklyn Brewery.  They also claimed to have "The World's Longest Topping Bar," which also had the world's longest line. I thought that was a bit of hyperbole, but they did have a tonnnnnn of stuff on there—we're talking 15 different kinds of cheeses, bacon, special kinds of mayo—they hooked you up.

This event also had the best music—who ever made that mix CD should be given a medal.  Curiously enough, Mayor Bloomberg showed up, perhaps to inspect The World's Longest Topping Bar.  I only have one question: Why was Mikey Bloomberg here and not Marty Markowitz?  Isn't he supposed to be all about BK?

Bloomberg proclaimed his love for sliders and made a beeline to the exit.

Did any of you guys go?  What'd you think?
