NEW PARK SLOPE NIGHT FOR SINGLES WITH GAME

Image provided by Bob Hewitt, owner of Brooklyn Game Lab Single in the Slope? Tired of meeting someone from Match.com and finding out it’s your dad? Well, there’s a new game in town! Starting in February there will be a weekly Singles’ Mixer at Park Slope’s new game spot, Brooklyn Game Lab on Seventh Avenue and 10th Street. During the day BGL is a place to pawn off your kids for camp or afterschool game activities because you aren’t about to look up from Words With Friends to teach them how to conquer all forty-two territories in Risk. After-hours though, this place is an adult-only gamer’s paradise with nights such as Scrabble Lover’s Sunday Nights, Wild Card Tuesday Nights and the aforementioned Singles’ Mixer on Thursday nights from 7:00-9:30. Although there is no full nudity or hardcore drugs involved it sounds like more fun than piña coladas and getting caught in the rain.

The Thursday nights will start off with a round or two of Werewolf, a popular game that Russell Brand likes to get high and jabber about. A number of other games will follow. After that you and a few of your new gamer friends can grab a snack and a lovely glass of wine on the next block at Brookvin and finish off the night bumping uglies or maybe just exchanging digits…or genital warts…or gaming tips or whatevs!

BGL owner Bob Hewitt’s advice for singletons regarding the Thursday night mixers:

If you're finding wit, genuine-ness, brains, quiet self-assuredness, and humor on the dating sites, in the gym and in the bars then [hat tip] keep that up. If not, try this.

On whether gaming was an ideal activity for meeting others:

Gaming in a group setting removes all the pressure and awkwardness. It gives you a genuine glimpse into who people really are -- a bunch of people all at once. Flirt via alliance. Flirt via attack. Flirt via word-play. The small talk -- of what we all do for a living -- can wait. Get right to real interaction.

Then, of course because I’m a hard-hitting journalist, I asked if gaming was sexy:

Generally speaking: gamers often possess that rare, sexy confidence you only find in people that truly don't give a shit what others think. People who've not abandoned their inner-child. Who aren't embarrassed by their guilty pleasures. Who are smart. Who like to be challenged. Who are present. Good, real people.

If you haven’t abandoned your inner-child on I-95 heading South to Delaware, come on down (or up, depending on where in the slope you reside). BGL’s Singles’ Mixer is right after most happy hours AND (like other BGL adult gaming nights) it’s FREE for the love-laced month of February! Come on cheap singles, RSVP here if you’re game.
