New Details Emerge in Murder of Ditmas Park Cafe Owner
Josh Rubin, the Ditmas Park cafe owner whose shot and charred body was found in Pennsylvania one day after he went missing on October 31st, may have owed creditors $14,000 at the time of his disappearance. According to The Post, Rubin had doubts about whether his Whisk Bakery Cafe, now shuttered, was a viable business:
“He told me he was putting up $25,000 and I said expect to double that,” said Bruce Tenami, who runs Famous Pita on Newkirk Avenue near Rubin’s now-shuttered cafe. “He said, ‘If I double it, I’m going to be dead.’ ”
Last week, as a make-shift memorial was set up outside Rubin's cafe, investigators continued piecing together the mysterious disappearance and discovery. They believe Rubin got into the car of someone on the day that he vanished. His credit card was used to purchase food in Orange County, NY a few days later. There was no known connection between Rubin and the wooded area in Allenton, PA where his body was found.
Via the New York Times:
“We’re at Stage 1 of the investigation,” the Lehigh County, Pa., district attorney, James B. Martin, said in a telephone interview on Thursday. “We have not developed any suspects at this point,” although, he added, investigators had several “persons of interest.”
Josh Rubin's funeral services will be held this Tuesday in his hometown state of Rhode Island. If you're interested in donating money in his memory, you can do so here.
