[My Favorite Park Slope...]: Coffee Shop Breakfast Options
As an unemployed loser relentlessly hopeful freelance writer, I spend most days working in coffee shops around the neighborhood. And because I often forget to buy basic morning essentials like eggs, milk and Peanut Butter Puffins while out grocery shopping, I usually end up eating breakfast at said coffee shops. I'm thankful that we've got so many great cafes in this neighborhood -- Postmark, Cafe Regular, Tea Lounge, Cafe Grumpy, Cocoa Bar, Cafe Martin, Gorilla, Noella Brew Bar -- but when it comes to breakfast options, I have to tip my shabby cap to Kos Kaffe. When the coffee shop first opened a few months back they weren't offering much for food, but have recently introduced breakfast and lunch options via a chalkboard hanging above the counter. And I've slowly been sampling every single dish.
Let's start with the Kos Kaffe Granola Bowl ($6.75), which consists of their own granola, greek yogurt, maple roasted pears and a drizzle of honey. The roasted pears are what make this dish pop for me. They also have Hot Buttered Toast ($2.25), which includes two slices of Blue Duck Bakery's multi-grain or white bread and creamy European butter. You can add almond butter or jam for only $.75. I recommend getting this with the almond butter. It'll melt in your mouth.
For lighter options, you can order Half a Grapefruit sprinkled with demerara sugar and candied ginger ($2.25), or a single Hard Boiled Egg ($1), which comes served in a bowl alongside a salt and pepper shaker. They also have bagels and oatmeal, which I have yet to sample, but after having tasted the granola bowl and hot buttered toast I don't know if I'll ever be able to eat anything else for breakfast ever again (sorry, Puffins).
What's your favorite breakfast spot in the Slope?
