Man Beaten In South Slope, Witness Laughed Off By Police
The Brooklyn Paper reported this morning that at 2AM on Wednesday a Hispanic man was beaten on 6th avenue near 18th street, possibly in an act of misguided vigilantism:
"... a witness said that two white men approached the Hispanic victim, saying, “Why are you here? What are you doing? Go back home!” before mercilessly pummeling him. The witness called 911, and cops took the man away but didn’t ask her for information. When she went to police hours later, they brushed her off.
“I tried to mention that I was hoping this wasn’t related to all the stepping up to find the so-called ‘Hispanic rapist,’ ” said the neighbor, who asked not to be identified. “They were laughing at me.”
One of the paper's commenters responded by urging Slopers to get all wired up when talking to police: "All citizens should tape (audio or video) interactions with police. This way when police lie to our faces and say there are no witnesses, we can expose them."
The paper also reports that cops were armed with flashlights and searching backyards around 13th street an hour earlier, at 1AM on Wednesday, after two undercover cops ordered a man to the ground, at which time he quickly took off running toward 8th avenue. The Village Voice, after reading the Brooklyn Paper's story, followed up with the DCPI and reports that the police say neither incident was related to the string of sexual attacks.
What the fuck is going on around here..
