Lies Marty Told Me: The Bike Lane was Always Supposed to be Temporary

Get out your shovels folks cause this shit is DEEP: according to Park Slope Patch, two days before the PPW bike lane trial of the century is scheduled to hit the stand, Borough Pres Marty Markowitz had a stupid idea is filing an affidavit claiming he heard DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan make a statement to him and two of his staff members calling the PPW bike lane a "trial" project.

FIPS'ters may remember one of my previous posts in which we reported that Jim Walden, lawyer for NBBL and SFS, claimed that the DOT actually lied to them by branding the controversial bike lanes as a temporary trial. Now Marty has been told moved to say the same thing.

Enter one of those staff members, Luke DePalma, who may just blow up Marty's spot. According to DePalma he urged Markowitz to REQUEST that the bike lane be labeled a "pilot." No word if anyone did. Coulda, shoulda woulda. guys. And DePalma will not confirm or deny whether he heard Sadik-Khan say those words or not.

Luckily for those of us who reside in Common Sense Land, NBBL and SFS have been unable to produce any documented instances where the DOT called the bike land "temporary" or a "pilot" or "just chillin.'" I guess that was Marty's job. Too bad he was stuck in traffic in one of his 3 tax payer-supplied limos.
