Juniors Sells Flagship to Make Way for High Rise Condo (they hope)
There goes the neighborhood...again! The iconic original Junior's Restaurant is on the market. According to the Daily News, the Rosen family has been fighting off potential buyers for years, but have finally sold out cried uncle and realized that they'd be stupid to miss out on the ginormous payday that's coming their way.
“The development market in the city is at a fevered pitch right now,” said Bob Knakal, chair of Massey Knakal, the brokerage firm marketing the property. “When you have a market like that, it makes people think.”
Hell, yeah, it makes people think. It makes them think, "Dayum! Hook me up with some of that real cash money!" Can you blame them? Knakel also yammered to the New York Post:
“We believe this is the best development site in Brooklyn and anticipate a feeding frenzy for this trophy property.”
Dude takes his marketing job seriously! Though the building will presumably turn into a 20 story luxury (they're all luxury nowadays) high rise, the plan is to for Juniors to rent back the ground floor from the new owners so they can continue selling their beloved cheesecakes for years to come. Though, as Knakel so eloquently puts it: “The only thing for certain in life is death and taxes, right?”
Hopefully, for any possible suitors, these photos of rats in the cheesecake display cases will be a faint memory. And if you really can't wait until it reopens, the Rosen family plans to open in a temporary location during construction.
