In a rare interview, Marilyn Monroe admits She had plans to retire in brooklyn

Picture it: A gracefully-aged 86 year-old Marilyn Monroe lounging under a pastel umbrella in Prospect Park while playing a game of bridge with her "Elderly, Elegant Women of Brooklyn" book club. If Marilyn were alive today, it may have been a possibility.

"When I retire, I'm going to retire to Brooklyn."

Monroe spoke these words in a rare interview re-broadcast by NBC yesterday, which was also the 50th anniversary of the actress's death. "Really?" the interviewer chuckles in a "why-the-fuck-would-you-move-to-Brooklyn" tone.

"That's my favorite place in the world, so far, that I've seen," Marilyn answers in that soft, breathy voice that surely mesmerized the man interviewing her. "I haven't traveled much, but I don't think I'll find anything to replace Brooklyn."

What was it about our borough that Marilyn loved so much?

"The people and the streets."

We would have loved to have had you, Marilyn.
