Hotel BPM Kinda Working Le Bleu's Turf
If Hotel Le Bleu has taught us anything, it's that trendy boutique hotels can thrive (read: barely survive) in our particular neck of Brooklyn as long as they maintain an air of mystery brought on by a bizarre neon blue glow and/or the fact that you've never met anyone who has actually ever been to their rooftop bar. So it would make perfect sense that yet a-n-o-t-h-e-r boutique hotel is giving it a go in "the Slope."
The brainchild of DJ Bijal (a.k.a Mr. Everywhere), Hotel BPM is the newest area inn-carnation trying to capitalize on its own brand of sleek accommodation for all of those people who are looking to sleep in Park Slope for a few days.
Actually scratch that.
Despite billing itself as Park Slope's next big beat and sleep happening, the heir to Le Bleu's boutique throne isn't even close. It's located at 139 33rd st. between 4th avenune and the Gowanus Expressway. The last time we checked, that was squarely in Sunset Park. Looks like someone's playing potential guests for a bunch of sucka MCs (can you tell how white I am?).
Neighborhood boundaries aside, Hotel BPM (which stands for beats per minute) promises visitors "trendsetting decor, environmentally-conscious amenities, and a DJ BIJAL-selected soundtrack streaming throughout the boutique property." If the thought of bouncing up and down to Bijal's special blend of hip-hop, pop, reggae, R&B, and Indian music while you're taking a whizz or waiting for your key in the lobby isn't enough, you'll be relieved to know that the hotel opening in SUMMER 2011 is "located near the Barclay Center." We're sure hotel guests will delight at taking the subway 40 blocks to watch the construction of the arena where the Brooklyn Nets will eventually play in 2013. There's no greater thrill than imagining slam dunks while watching cranes attach things.
With any luck, Hotel BPM might still be around when the Nets tip-off in a couple of years. We wish them luck... we have a feeling they might need it.
