Home Again: 85% of College Grads Living With Their Parents

Via Gothamist comes the news that the recession generation (or whatever the current crop of graduates is called) are returning home in droves. Like nearly ALL of them. 85% of college seniors are expected to move back home after graduation. Wow and shit.

Can you sue colleges for misrepresentation? Because seriously, what has that nosebleed inspiring college education done for you lately?

But Forbes has your back, with their year-old but still relevant feature article, "How to Avoid Living At Home After College." Their tips:

  1. Get your parents to pay for a rental - Subsidized housing for trust fund kids!
  2. Craigslist Housemate Matchup - Okay, that sounds scary..
  3. Find a Housesitting Gig - Maybe.
  4. Volunteer with Americorps - "They provide living allowances" - Yeah, sure they do.
  5. Become a Camp Counselor - Free room and board.
  6. Become a Ski Bum - I'm getting a little nauseated; who writes this shit?
  7. Work Your Way Abroad - Who's supposed to subsidize this?
  8. Mooch off an Older Sib - Possibly.
  9. Van by the River - I can see it now; a Hooverville in Red Hook.
  10. Enlist - AYFKMWTS? "Signing up just to avoid moving back home might seem extreme but..."

Are YOU back home with the rents, spending your days playing video games and online poker in between filling out peace corp and grad school apps? Have your kids come home again? Are there house rules? Curfews? Loud music? Rules against getting lucky in your childhood bedroom?

Is Park Slope bucking the 85% recidivism rates or is EVERYBODY and their boy/girlfriends living at the family brownstone/coop/tenement?
