Here's a Giant Map That Will Help You Choose The Best Park Slope Laundromat (Part I)

View Park Slope Coin Laundry Places in a larger map

While recently doing laundry at Suds on 6th Ave., I noticed that my 50-lb super washer, while seemingly expensive at $4.95 a load, is a lot cheaper than dropping it off and having someone there wash it for 75 cents/pound.

And maybe it’s a cheapskate/anal/control freak part of me that doesn’t mind washing my own stuff.   I do use drop-off/fluff-fold service when I’m really busy, but who the heck knows what goes on with one’s clothes when you leave them with strangers?  Do they use the suggested settings?  Do they separate whites?  Do my delicate sweaters get tossed in with dirty socks?

So if you’re one of those “Want-Something-Right-Then-Do-It-Yourself” types of people, the above map is your ultimate guide to DIY laundering in Park Slope. What we’ve attempted to do is visit nearly every laundromat with do-it-yourself coin washers and dryers, and provide you with the following info:

  • The # of washing machines
  • If they offer dry cleaning and/or tailoring
  • If they offer fluff & fold
  • The cost per pound of laundry
  • Their Yelp rating

Here are some quick takeaways from our research:

  • Average # of washing machines:  20 washers
  • Largest place:  Clean Rite on 4th:  60 washers
  • Smallest place:  4th Ave. Bright & Clean:  14 washers
  • Scariest Place:  Wash Dry on 8th (this place is practically Post-apocalyptic)
  • Highest-rated:    9th Street Laundromat; Suds on 6th; Suds on 8th
  • Lowest-rated: Park Slope Laundromat & Dry Cleaners on Flatbush
  • Largest washer:  Clean Rite:  80 lb mega washer!

Keep a eye out for Part Two, where we’ll be doing the same for all the non-DIY spots in the slope.

If we missed any places due to pit stops for happy hour drinks, let us know.  Otherwise, feel free to shout out your faves or hated joints.  Personally, I was jealous how some of these places are next to cool coffee joints or mellow bars – perfect for when you’re waiting for that final spin cycle.
