Funny in Park Slope

Wyatt Cenac hosts a new Littlefield comedy show (via via bam150years.blogspot.com).

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy and the who-names-a-winter-storm-Nor'easter known as "Athena," we must rememeber to always have laughter. Guffaw at Mother Nature in all her arbitrary bitchiness! For this, we bring you "Funny in Park Slope": the best (or, at least, most frequent) comedy shows in our fair 'hood and environs:

* Pretty Good Friends w/Eugene Mirman, Union Hall: Eugene Mirman is basically the resident monarch of Park Slope comedy. And he rules benevolently, sharing with us weekly his funny friends. Most, if not all, of the times I've gone to this show, there's been a pretty great surprise guest, too: e.g. Demetri Martin or David Cross. Even so, the highlight is often Mirman's crowd banter. You will want to hug him and/or steal him over to your house to just say funny things at you all the time.  Sundays, 7:30pm, $7.

* Party Machine, Union Hall: "Professional party hosts," which is an actual thing you can actually write on actual business cards, Arden Myrin and Lisa Delarios hype the crowd for a slew of stand-up, musicians, and other variety acts. Monthly, dates vary.

* Cheap Date Comedy Show, Union Hall: Who wants to spend your hard-trust-funded money on a date, right? This thing's set up for budget Romeos -- just five bucks, and you'll get her (or him [or them?]) laughing, which is the first step towards other sounds, culminating in, "Take out the trash, honey." 2nd Tuesdays, 8pm, $5.

* Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac, Littlefield: The sleepy-voiced Daily Show correspondent takes over the Monday comedy spot left vacant by the departure of "Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen."  Similar to the double-K (preceded by an H...and a T) show, Wyatt will host emerging-to-famous stand-up comics, mash-upped with bands and other celebrities.  Mondays,Launches Monday, Nov. 5: 8pm, $5-8.

* Ditch Comedy w/Yannis Pappis, Bar 4: Weekly standup with Yannis Pappis. I have to be honest, I don't know this show. But, if it lives up to the rep of Bar 4's music open mic, the quality's probably pretty good. Sundays, 9:30pm, FREE.

* Ed Sullivan on Acid, Freddy's: A holdover from the old (pre-Barclays) Freddy's,  "Ed Sullivan on Acid" began as a variety show, but turned into a straight-stand up showcase, hosted by Pat O'shea. First and Third Mondays, Open Mic at 6pm, Ed Sullivan at 9:30pm, FREE.

* Tuesdays at Tea Lounge: Park Slope's most (only?) ridiculously spacious stroller hangar also clears out the long tables in back every Tuesday evening for what are generally comedy shows. Depending on the week, you've got "I Like You Maude," a storytelling show (hosted by FiPS' own Kerri Doherty), where good stories usually have some yuks; "Fresh Start Comedy," stand-up sets that give comics the chance to try out -- and re-try-out, if necessary -- new bits; and "Car, Boat, Train," the only regular improv show in the 'hood of which I'm aware. Just a little laughter to aid in that chai latte digestion. Tuesdays, Times Vary, FREE.
