FIPS First Annual Bad Breeder Contest

I've had my moments in the annals of crappy parenting. Yes, I've taught my kids to curse like little navvies. I didn't correct kid two when she used to think dump truck was pronounced dumb fuck. I'm a yeller. I like to nap even when my kids don't want to. I consider inconsistency kind of under-rated. I make my husband do all the bedtime stories.

But I draw the line at smoking a bong while driving my kids around. A recent Park Slope Parents post emailed anonymously to FIPS headquarters (me having been permanently banned!) related the alarming daytripping of a stoner Park Slope daddy as reported by his wife. Apparently, driving through Westchester with his preschooler had proved too much for the dude. "He was so stoned he was virtually incoherent...What can I do to protect my child from someone who loves him/her but clearly makes some terrible decisions?"

Yeah, take the fucking car keys away for starters!!!! I'm kind of curious what ensued. I can venture a guess. And I'm with you on this one, Nancy McD, wherever you are and whatever you're saying!

So, I wasn't going to touch this one until I saw the perfectly bad Gothamist headline about an unmanned baby stroller parked outside the OTB in Bay Ridge.

"A reader sent in this photograph of a baby who was left unattended in his/her stroller outside an OTB facility in Bay Ridge. He tells us that 20 minutes after taking the initial picture, 'The carriage was gone. There was no hovering parent type watching out the window that I could see. In all honesty, they might have nipped in for two minutes to collect a drunken uncle and to hand out bibles—regardless they shouldn't have left the child unattended on the street.' No kidding—this is not Denmark."

Uh, yeah.

Should I take these recent incidents as growing evidence that perhaps the parents of Brooklyn are having a communal nervous breakdown?

I hesitate to encourage bad behavior (and i don't condone it--in anybody but me!) but tell us the shit you've seen lately that backs up my hypothesis.
