Dizzy's Diner is Raising Money For Their Employee Who Was Attacked Last Week
More details have emerged about the horrific stabbing outside of Dizzy’s Diner on 9th Street and 8th Avenue late last week.
Around 2:15 a.m. this past Saturday, Dizzy's employee Guadalupe “Lupe” Morales, 41, was cleaning up outside of the restaurant, when a man attacked him. After slashing Lupe in the chest, neck and back, the perp ran towards Prospect Park, evading authorities, who quickly arrived on the scene. Early reports say the still-at-large assailant was around 20 years-old and dressed in jeans and a black tank top. Lupe is currently in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.
The attacker's motive remains unclear. “Nobody knows why it happened,” a 78th Precinct source told The Brooklyn Paper. The restaurant's manager, John Hurley, was also quoted as saying, “Lupe is one of the sweetest guys here. There’s always a smile on his face and he’s an incredibly hard worker.”
Hurley and the rest of the Dizzy's staff are making an effort to help raise money for Lupe’s hospital bills and recovery. Customers and co-workers have been tossing donations into a jar on Dizzy’s counter, and an organized fundraising effort is expected to kick off later this week.
In the meantime, pop in and drop off a donation if you can!
