Co-Op Board Wars: Blood on the Carpet

Deep, deep in my heart (I can't even know the depths of it), I hate my co-op board.

Hate.

HATE!

I haven't felt so passionately hateful since adolescence.

Why, you ask? It's simple: Paint and pendants.

Why would redoing the lobby and halls prompt such emotion? Who the fuck knows? I certainly don't. All I know is: I can now easily see how wars happen.

I have longed for the day, lo these many, many years (13!) when our co-op would at last decide to repair and paint our crumbling, squalid walls.

The bones were there. A beautiful lobby waiting to be relieved of the inexplicable and ubiquitous BLACK trim and bleak beige walls; old flickery fluorescents be gone. Even the columns were black, for god's sake. Things
that should be light were dark and things that should be dark were light. And so I planned. I swatched. I tested. I studied. At long last, the day arrived (expedited by Donna's leaky waste pipe on the stairway wall).

And, somehow inexplicably, it was decided that we should keep what we had
colorwise (!?), except the black would now be replaced with paint that was the approximate color of shit (oops, I mean chocolate brown!). This would be punctuated by beige spindles on the stair railings, and beige doors.

Uhm, blech. Please, god, I said, let us consult with professionals who actually know what the fuck they're doing! Please, I entreated, let democracy reign and give residents a few choices to vote on!

But nooooooo...that didn't happen. And now it's like a knife in the heart to see poop brown columns staring me in the face every time I enter my building.

Oh, and the lights? Oy.

When I told my former board members that they and their Jericho Turnpike wedding/bar mitzvah palace lights stink, one actually called me a racist. This, despite the fact that I am both a Heeb and a white-shoed
Italian, and have been to at least 20 weddings in Massapequa.

Things are continuing on a downward spiral. A particularly paranoid member of the board has taken to accusing me of stealing the blue painter's tape she uses to mark up "problem spots" in the lobby for our painter, who I regret having recommended, so abused has he been. She keeps
demanding the key back to her side of the co-op, as if I'm going to break in and egg her door like that crazy person at the Novo (actually, that's not a bad idea). I told her I'd spend a day searching for her fucking key if she gave me back mine, and promised that she'd never darken my side's doorstep again.

So, it's war.

Now, of course, I am always right and completely grown-up and rational at all times (as my family could attest). I've lived here a long time and get along well with people (ok, that first part is true).

So I ask: how can my co-op board completely circumnavigate democracy and good taste? And is mine the only one? Comfort me in my sorrow and pain. Tell me your residential war stories.

Recently in Spain held a demonstration called Operation Teddy in which states that downloading music from the Internet is not a crime. The protesters gathered at the headquarters of the General Society of Authors and Editors of Spain (SGAE), using megaphones, laptops and posters announcing that in that space was downloading music from the Internet as part of the protest. The main purpose of this demonstration is to show that sharing files over the network means to promote freedom and technical knowledge, and should not be subject to copyright laws. The name "Operation Teddy" was because the group of protesters downloaded a song by Teddy Bautista, called Get On Your CNES.According to Xavier, a member of a group of hackers Metabolik laboratory belonging to the states "We claim the free flow of culture and technique against the digital divide that produce the lords of the copyright. A sustained breach of the outdated cultural industry and copy laws. "Is it validates the idea that downloading music and files from the Internet, is only one way to encourage technological culture?

The new distribution channel consisting in offering downloadable movies over the Internet is consolidating. Seems to begin to overcome the fears that the producers have had to this way of distributing content, in part, thanks to new anti-piracy systems (DRM), and partly I guess because of the successes already harvested by the Apple i-Tunes , through which has been offering legal downloads of music and later TV series. i-Tunes has demonstrated that this new form of distribution is not only a cost effective solution, but is destined to become the way to provide content for the future. In the United States already offers the service of Internet movie downloads such as Movielink and CinemaNow. The latter recently has added to its services from that after you download the movie burned to DVD for viewing on any player (even the titles offered are mediocre).
