C Ya Later, Alligator: Two Boots Battles with DOH Over C Grade

When a friend told me that she'd seen a big fat "C" in the window of Two Boots, I confess, my heart sank a little bit. I know, I know, it's super-corny, but seriously, Two Boots was one of the first restaurants I went to when I moved into the neighborhood 17 years ago. I still have the CD of a band we saw there one night -- The Haoles, who we later hired to play at my husband's 30th birthday party, which we celebrated at...wait for it...Two Boots. And then, like all dutiful breeders in Park Slope, we went there with our kids on the regular, from the time they were born. There's nowhere else around here that serves mac n' cheese with trees! For a few years, it was a tradition to go there for dinner the night before school started.

Okay, enough with the sentimal crap. Imagine my relief when I went to check it out myself (okay, fine, I sent my husband over to take the pictures) and found this lengthy note from the owners in the window next to the offending grade:

Phew! I think. I mean, uh, alligator meat???

Say what you will about the joint, but Two Boots has been here forever, and though I never got into the pizza with the cornmeal dusted crust (why???), the restaurant has stayed trued to itself, and has served all ages of the community very well throughout the years. Now I feel guilty that we haven't been there for a while. Looks like I'll be ordering my usual salmon with mashed potatos and sautéed spinach sometime soon. With a margarita. Or two. How else to deal with all the little kids screaming and running up to the kitchen window for pizza dough?
