Brooklyn Has Lowest Murder Rate Since 1960

In 2012, there were 149 murders in Brooklyn, and even though that's still a fucking lot of tragedy, it's the lowest number that the borough has seen since 1960.
"The key to this dramatic drop in murders has been the dedication of our communities and their collaboration with everyone from their religious leaders to city councilmen to local precinct commanders determined to keep their neighborhoods safe,” Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes recently said in a statement. Fact: when Hynes first took office in 1990 there were 780 murders in BK, so we've come a long way in that department.
