Breaking News: de Blasios Decide to Ditch Park Slope for Upper East Side

It's official. The New York Times is reporting that Bill de Blasio and famiglia will pack up the family truckster and move in to Gracie Mansion. The news broke in a heartfelt message entitled "Family Decision" on the TransitionNYC website:

It’s a tough decision. Brooklyn is our home and Park Slope is our neighborhood. And we love these places. In many ways, they’ve come to define who we are.

No matter where we live while Bill is Mayor, this won’t change.

For a variety of reasons, like logistical and security concerns, we’ve decided to move to Gracie Mansion. It’s a practical choice but one that we make with respect and gratitude for the people of New York City.

They promise to visit the old neighborhood often, especially their favorite haunts Bar Toto, Little Purity Diner, and the YMCA, where I know many Slope-ers have spotted Bill working out.

But, really, will the UES seem all that different to them, given how much the Slope has changed in recent years? I've been up there, and there are just as many double-wide strollers there as there are here, there just have Gucci diaper bags hanging over the handles.

Poor Dante, though. As anyone who has ever had to commute on the 6 train at rush hour can tell you, that just suuuuuuuuucks. It makes the F train look like paradise.
