Barksy Wins 1st Prize In Park Slope Canine Costume Parade
Turns out, Banksy actually was in Park Slope this past weekend! Well, at least his canine counterpart, Barksy, was. Barksy took first prize in Sunday’s Howl-O-Ween costume contest in Prospect Park’s Long Meadow. Barksy came with his recent graffiti art on a white canvas, also known as one of his owners. He had spray paint cans on his back and was really just too cute, clever and cool for dog school. Barksy's owners are Park Slope residents Wendy and Gerry Hoey. They won a $150 gift certificate for Calm Energy Dog Training and a one-month membership to Go Fetch Run.
2nd prize went to a pillbox hat-donning pooch dressed as Jackie O, who won a one-month membership to Go Fetch Run and a bag of treats from All Natural Dog Treats Handmade in Brooklyn.
3rd prize went to a fabulous pup dressed as “Elton Dog.” He won a bag of dog treats.
One of my favorites of the twenty-five costumed dogs who took part in the parade was a doggie dressed as a sentient furred biped native to the moon of Endor. For all of you who didn’t have a geeky ex who made you watch Star Wars with him at least once a month for over a year, that’s an Ewok. Among the other participant pups were a monster, a pirate, a pumpkin, a bumble bee, a witch, a giraffe, a space dog and the Phantom of the Opera.
There was a good turn out for the event and Angi Taylor, the founder and owner of Go Fetch Run who hosted the event, said they plan to do it again next year. Hot diggity!
