A Real Bitch
This must be the week for crazy neighborhood stories (keep 'em coming!). Today, a longtime FIPS reader writes in about an incident experienced at the dog park on 17th Street between 6th and 7th Ave.
A few months ago, my dog was attacked by a group of dogs in the park. The dogs were all under the supervision of a dog walker who thinks taking dogs to a park is the same as walking them. She has no control over the animals she is "walking" and is really nasty to boot. When her gang of dogs attacked mine, she stated "You're overreacting. That's what dogs do, you're acting stupid" as her dogs jumped and nipped at me while I was trying to leave with my dog. The woman stepped in front of the dog park gate, not allowing me to leave and continued to state "You're acting ridiculous. Give me a break, you have no idea about dogs." She then tried to blame me "Well, is your dog neutered? Is he a puppy? Maybe he doesn't have social skills?" Let me tell you FIPS. My dog has fucking social skills AND he's neutered. He's never been in an incident before or after this one (although he does act nervous around big dogs now). He's not even 15 pounds. Her dogs? All huge and acting like thugs trained in the art of mighty ducks formations. They had my dog flipped over on his back within seconds of him stepping into the dog park and took turns chomping on his belly. I had to tell the woman to move the hell out of the way and to leave me alone.
While I was outside of the dog park gates, I put my dog down and looked him over. He looked okay except for a few superficial teeth scrapes and scratches. He was also extremely shaken up. A woman came up to me who happened to see the whole thing and told me that this wasn't the first time the dog walker's dogs attacked in the park and that basically she thinks the woman is bat shit crazy. The dog walker saw that the woman and I were talking and started yelling things to us from inside the dog park. We left.
I have not taken my pup to the park since in fear of running into the dog walker or having to witness something terrible happening there. Oddly enough, I was walking my dog yesterday and met a woman whose dog was just attacked a few days earlier by the same group of dogs watched by the same dog walking lady at the same shitty dog park. This woman's dog was hurt badly and she was bit on the leg herself. She told me she filed a police report about the incident.
Has anyone else had a similar experience at that park, or with that dog walker?
