Grand Rotation: The Cycle of Life

Alright, what fuckin time is it, I'm startin' to get hungry.

I'm at the office, about to call my wife and start doing the nightly "what shwee eat" dance. I'm not sure, I guess we could do Chinese, but I had pad thai for lunch so two wongs don't quite make a right .... hm.

I swear, even though there are 100 restaurants in the slope, we order from the same 5 restaurants and never depart from our rotation.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours - here's our rotation:

  • Red Hot (Sesame Shrimp, Moo-shoo Vegetable, #808 - Bean Curd, Green Peas and Cashews)

  • Beet (Indy Chicken Burrito, Summer Rolls, Bazil Seitan, Pad See You)

  • Bombay Grill (Chicken Tikka Masalla, Sag Paneer, Garlic Naan, Veggy Samosas, Mango Chutney, PAPADOM PREACH)

  • Anthony's Pizza (Pepperoni or Sausage Pizza with Mushrooms)

  • Uncle Moe's (Burritos, Chopped Salad)

  • Jpan Sushi - a Billion dollars but my favorite place in the world - I'd rather go here than The Four Seasons. I get the VOLCANO ROLL, she gets Udon.

Give it up - What's in your rotation?

Red Hot (boiled dumplings, szechuan beef OR szechuan triple, brown rice)

And... that's it for the regulars.

Occasionals:

Yamato (triple color roll, millenium roll, unagi don - spendy but yum)

Coco Roco (some asst'd fried meats, sesame salmon ceviche which is AWESOME)

Bombay Grill (korma, aloo papri, lamb vindaloo zomghot)

Red Hot is at the top of the list. Gotta throw in Lemongrass and Olive Vine every now and then. And if your gonna spend the $$$ on sushi, I like Blue Ribbon.

December 4, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJohn G.

Ok, first of all: ANYONE who has sushi on their list, listen up:

Holy shit... I HATE the dance!! It gets very hostile between me and the man bitch.

Me: what do you feel like tonight?
Him: I don't know, what do you feel like
Me: I can always do Red Hot, you know that...
Him: No, not tonight, we had that three nights already
Me: So why the fuck did you ask...fucking choose
Him: You don't gotta be so shitty about it..
Me: I'm just saying, I can do meat and potato every night
Him: I know, I just dont know what I want...
Me: So why are you asking me if you know...
Him: Fine, I'll just eat something from the fridge.
Me: Fine, go eat some baking soda and seltzer water from that party we had that we never used...I'm ordering Red Hot.
Him: Ok, just order the sesame chicken for me...no wait, do I want that or do I want Mexican..
Me: Holy, fucking shit..you indecisive, procrastinating momma's boy!

Your blog should have been about choosing and not the destination... I could go on. But I digress...

Red Hot (Garic Chicken, bwown wice, egg lo)
Happy Taco #2 (chicken rice soup -- KICKS ASS!)

That's it...Meat. and. Potato.

Going out is another story... Coco Rocco, SideCAR, PALO SANTO <--- AMAZING (in that ooh, look at me, my food has weird names, no full bar though, deal breaker for me), MezCals....

MORE IMPORTANTLY:

@ RJT You know your shit, well your Sushi, YAMATO is the best place in the slope for SUSHI...possibly even the Greater New York area collectively...

@Erica and everyone else that didn't list YAMATO, stop what you're doing and head out to YAMATO order:

Tsingao Beer or bitch it out with some Plum Wine.

Lobster Tempura to start (not a roll, but actual CHUNKS of lobster, battered and presented on the tastiest may/garlic sauce in the world)

Seared Tuna Salad

One 2006 Roll
One Tri Color Roll
One Dragon Roll and/or one Sweet Potato Roll...

Orgasm... Hit me up and tell me how right RJT and I are ...and then go back to what you were doing.

**Erica, you go back to posting, we need something to read while we're at work.

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterArock

Yikes, guys: A FIPS reader just sent this shiz in (have no idea if its tru or not, but thought I would share)(I'm stickin with Jpan):

You can take one one delivery menu from the over saturated Park Slope
sushi guild directly from the fridge to the trash. Yamato, located on 168 7th ave. was inspected on November 20th, 2008.

They received 53 violation points on 10 violations. For those of us who do not have a food protection certificate, including the supervisor of food operations at Yamato at the time which in itself a violation, that is an exceptionally bad score.
According to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene,"A total of 28 or more points in either critical or general violations requires that a BFSCS PHS perform another inspection to assure that violations have been corrected and the FSE adequately complies with
regulations."

Among the hijinks these raw fish artists were up to:
evidence of mice (sick), improper utensil usage, and not keeping
uncooked food cold enough.

For slightly less untainted sushi, I
recommend walking 1 block in any direction.

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterErica

Wait...wha?

HTF, did someone already read my post and look it up and send it to you and then HTF did you already check your mail and decide to post it...

Ok, so I did some research and it seems as though it is listed on public records at: nyc.everyblock.com/..

Jpan was not listed, cause you know I was ready for a throw down...

So, I'm just going to go with it... much like kids and scrapes, and germs and playgrounds, we grown-ups need some exposure to 'filth.' Most restaurants do have the same exposures...and a lot (not all) were in violations...check out the site...

I'm sticking with my rat infested Yamato..RJT you still with me?

@ FIPS still love your blog even though Erica just totally hated on me and Yamato...

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterArock

Arock I'm still down. At Coco Roco the rat is a kitchen manager, their grilled pork is still delicious. But hey I eat street cart food.

Anyway, Erica's double negative confused me so bad it cancelled out my panic. "Less untainted"? Tsk tsk...

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterrjt

Ok, I should have said "just checked our other account"...the dude didn't *just* send. He probs sent yesterday after the other Yamato comments.

Also, I cut and pasted his entire email...that wasn't MY double negative, thank you very much (I'm grammar sensitive fyi: I do tend to use yo too much, misspell things AND make shit up, but I do all that on purpose).

Look, I'm open to taking new things on...and WILL still probs try Yamato (even after this disgustingness) b/c I've never had it and I love my sushi. But all I'm sayin is: Jpan is the bomb diggity...and I've eaten a lot of fuckin sushi in this city over the past 8 years. Can't we meet half way? Just TRY it.

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterErica

Next time we're feeling spendy we'll definitely try JPan. Hope you enjoy the Rodent Roll at Yamata...

Sorry for dinging you for someone else's double neg. You're the man, Erica.

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterrjt

Fine... I will go to Jpan within the next 7 days with the Man Bitch, surely, he'll pout and cry and carry on like his nuts weigh 50lbs and he can't walk fast... and I will report back.

Is that the place near Song? Cause, if it is, I may have gone there last year on Christmas day... and it was 'ok'

I will try again.

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterArock

How bout this: I propose a Jpan vs.Yamato showdown. U, me, Benjamin, arock and any other SILTH's who wanna join go on a field trip.

We go to each place, order one roll, one shared app and a beer. We can document the entire thing (rats-n-all) for the good of FIPS.

Winner take all.

Who's down?

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterErica

and by "you" I meant rjt

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterErica

I am so totally down for a showdown...

You name the date and time (can't be tomorrow)... maybe a week night?

In fact, we should totally have a showdown once a month...pizza, cheap mexican, thai, vegie, coffee house, brunch...etc. Judging criteria should be predetermined before each showdown...

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterArock

@Arock: You are so fucking hired...BRILLIANT!

Monthly showdows are genius. Lemme figure out the details and I'll do a separate post. (what about Thurs 12/11?)

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterErica

The 11th is great...

Sidenote: I ran First Fridays in Miami for a while I was a member of a group 30/30 (30 business professionals under the age of 30) long story short, we did social events and had everything comped (Free) by the business because of our promotion.

We should brainstorm...

December 5, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterArock

What are you KIDDING? Meet people from the intarwebs in PERSON?!

Yeah okay of course I'm down. My schedule is borked next week but let's talk.
