VMAs may be coming to Brooklyn, but Brooklyn doesn't really give a shit.

Hold on to your Moonman, the VMAs are almost here. Slopers can prepare to get a glimpse of their favorite recording artists, teen moms, catfish couples and tweens at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards taking place this Sunday night at the Barclay’s Center.

To celebrate this event, Brooklyn has closed a bunch of streets, rolled out a super short red carpet.....and that’s about it. It seems that long gone are the days of drinking games involving Brittney losing a hair extension or rappers thanking Jesus.

We perused the weekend happenings at a number of Slope hangouts and found that, well, nobody really gives a shit.  Still hard to believe considering news earlier this week that Justin Timberlake may acknowledge the existence of the Y, S, N. and C for an ‘NSYNC reunion (Spoiler alert: JT put the kibosh on that one).

While Park Slope doesn’t seem to be getting in the VMA spirit, our neighbors seem slightly more enthused. If you’re looking to critique celebrities in public, head on over to a viewing party Sunday night at SoCo (509 Myrtle Ave) for happy hour, cocktail “specails” and more.  More, most likely meaning actual SoCo.

And as mentioned in yesterday’s Whassup, Last Exit Bar (136 Atlantic Ave) is hosting a nostalgia party for the actual days of videos on the network named after them. That’s right, you show that MTV what you really want to see on their network.

If you’re worried how the VMA’s are totally going to make your weekend annoying, check out Brooklyn Paper for a rundown of places to avoid. Let’s face it, though, you’re not going anywhere. You’ve got a date with your couch, your inner mean girl/gay, and some Ben and Jerry’s.

Did we miss something? Having a VMA’s costume bash at your pad? Where’s the party at, Park Slope?
