TOMORROW: Community Board 7 Public Safety Committee Holds Meeting On Attacks

Photo via Gothamist

Still feel like maaaaaaybe enough isn't being done around these parts to prevent further attacks against women? Or maybe you're just interested in learning more about what the current strategy is?

Join City Councilmember Brad Lander, RightRides, Safe Slope and The Center for Anti-Violence Education in a continuing discussion of how to keep women in our neighborhoods safe from attacks.

When: Tuesday, September 27 at 6:30pm

Where: Office of Community Board 7, 4201 4th Ave (enter on 43rd street)

Brad Lander had the following to say when he announced the meeting via email earlier today:

Thank you for being in touch with my office regarding the terrible string of sexual assaults that has plagued South Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Greenwood Heights, and Sunset Park.  As I have mentioned to some of you, the 72nd and 78th Precincts have been increasing their presence (both uniformed and plain-clothes officers) throughout these neighborhoods. But it is not enough until these predators are captured. We must bring the men behind these vicious actions to justice.

Because of the urgency of the situation many groups and individuals have been taking their own action, including setting up a network of volunteers who can escort women home in the evenings. I want to applaud the efforts of all of these volunteers and community members. Building on that effort, I would like to invite you to join me at a meeting hosted by the Community Board 7 Public Safety Committee where members of the affected neighborhoods will be coming together to talk about what we can do to make sure everyone can walk the streets of our neighborhoods without fear of attack.
