My Mom and I Used to Make Bagels Like This Dude RockinJellyfish

When I was really little, I moved with my parents from Hewlett on Long Island to Woodstock. Yep, THE Woodstock.

I went to some hippie school called The School of the New Moon and was forced to wear overalls and beads and braid my hair. But one of my bestest memories I have from this time is making bagels with my mom.

I guess back then, there weren't any actual bagel shops in Woodstock and so me-n-mom would just make em every week. I don't remember much about the process, except that it was long, took two days, and made the house smell un-fucking-believable.

Of course, afterward all of my parent's hippie friends would come over with the munchies and eat them all.

Whenever I smell bagels baking, I always think of my mom.

FIPS 'Bagel Monday' ToDo's

*Order some bagel-related holiday gifts, like this mini bagel soap, this bagel slicer, or some bagel-icious artwork (Etsy).

*Speaking of gifts, if you want to send someone the best pressie of all time, order them something delish from Russ & Daughters (their caviar cream cheese is a religious experience) (Russ and Daughters).

*Now that we've tackled Brooklyn bagels, "behold the power of the bagel" in Manhattan with Cityrag's Guide to Bagels in NYC (Cityrag).

*Wow, there are lots of other shops with the words "Brooklyn" and "Bagel" in their names all over the place (Flickr).

*Read up on the History of the Bagel (Slate).

*Catch up on the "Twitterverse" chatter about all things bagel-riffic (Twitter).

*Take a stupid quiz to figure out what kind of bagel you are (ed note: I'm kinda over Bagel Monday already) (Blog Things)
