Segways for Sukkot! Who Knew??!
Wish your mobile sukkah had a smaller carbon footprint? Or maybe you just feel confused about what exactly Sukkot is. I do, and I'm Jewish. Apparently the holiday now comes with... segways? I mean, beyond building a little hut in your yard (technically called a sukkah) made of corn, hay and decorative gourds -- because that's pretty much what my 4 years of hippy dippy Jewish Sunday School taught me the holiday was all about -- I thought that was it. Harvesting and stuff.
But apparently it's also about speed -- and the need for it. Actually, I'm not sure that's true, but for some reason (please submit your ideas below!), Community Organizer Machy Lerner was so taken with segways after taking a tour of Boston's Freedom Trail on one last week, he decided to import a whole truck load of 'em to Brooklyn for Sukkot. Maybe for faster harvesting? Probably just for fun. But anyone who wants to partake in a free lesson of spinning around the 'hood has until tomorrow to do so. You can go to 3rd St and 8th Ave to celebrate Sukkot or just to live out your Gob Bluth fantasy. Onwards!
