Reality Wedding Couple In Da Hood

Image via NYDailyNews.comPark Slope geek culture couple Sara Velencia and Vince Eaton were down on their luck this past summer. He was unemployed and she was interning for $7.50 an hour. They weren’t able to shop at Union Market or go to Talde for dinner. That’s how bad it was. They were in love and going to have a wedding. What’s a lovelorn poverty-stricken but industrious couple to do to pay for such an event? Buy all their wedding supplies from Save On 5th? Crash a wedding at The Grand Prospect Hall and claim it as their own? Apply to reality wedding show casting calls? Bingo.

They applied to a “budget wedding show” on TLC and then those sneaky TLC producers pulled a fast one. They planned with the groom to replace their DIY crapola nuptials with the wedding of their wet dreams – a rustic barn geek fest wedding on Long Island. Her shitty gown was replaced with designer duds, lame cupcakes were exchanged for a three-tiered zombie wedding cake, the bride’s Park Slope look was glammed up and the potted plant she was planning on carrying down the aisle (true!) was exchanged for a beautiful bouquet by Anne Trimble, a former Park Slope resident of 20 years, now Long Island florist. Their wedding wheels (I assume Arecibo) were replaced with a DeLorean, a la Back to the Future, this loony couple’s favorite movie.

Whether you think it’s cool or creepy that Sara and Vince exchanged vows in High Elvish language and acted out a scene from Lord of The Rings at their freebie reality wedding, the one thing you can’t deny is that this budget Park Slope couple was enviably resourceful.

The post wedding interviews for their episode were shot in Prospect Park near the baseball fields. A press interview was shot in their tiny one bedroom on 5th Ave. in center slope.

Since you have now deleted all the Duck Dynasty episodes from your DVR, tune in to watch your reality star neighbor’s episode of Secret Wedding on TLC this Friday, Dec. 27th at 10 PM. Who’s going to watch?
